Abhishek Kumar is spearheading the development of the novel Digital OCT Aberrometry system at Wavesense Engineering. He came to Vienna in late 2011 to pursue PhD research in Medical Physics at the University of Vienna (MUW), Austria, after completing his master’s degree in Optics at the University of Rochester, New York, USA.
He continued his research work at the MUW as a Post-Doctoral researcher after completing his PhD study in 2015, during which he invented a novel algorithm of Digital Wavesense Sensing, which eventually led to the foundation of Wavesense Engineering is 2018. He has gained extensive experience over the past 10 years in managing research and technical project, working first as a PhD researcher and later as a postdoctoral researcher scientist at MUW. This work at MUW has resulted in several pioneering scientific research publications in the field of Digital Wavefront Sensing and OCT. Working as CEO since 2018, he has gained valuable real-life experience in business foundation and management, IP protection and Medical Device Regulations (MDR).

In the ophthalmic market, 20/10’s experience includes raising EUR 50+ million in venture capital, development and successful global marketing of several leading technology products (e.g. WavScan aberrometer, Victus femtosecond laser platform), entering into a joint-venture with Bausch+Lomb and later successfully selling the globally operating business to Bausch+Lomb, and extensive experience in further strategic M&A transactions totalling several hundred million Euros.
